Shan State
Shan State is situated in the Eastern part of Myanmar and boarder closed to Kachin State, Chin State, Laos, Thailand, Kayar State, Kayin State, Mandalay Division and Sagaing Division. It laid on North Latitude between 19 degree 15 minutes and 24 degree 20 minutes and East Longitude between 96 degree 10 minutes and 101 degree 10 minutes with the area of 60155 sq miles and population of 5 million. Shan State is the most populated among all states. Now the Shan State was divided into three known as Southern, Northern and Eastern parts of the State. Capital in Southern part is Taunggyi, Northern part is Lashio, and Eastern is Kyaingtong. Shan people of Northern part along with Danu, Taungyo, Intha, Paaing, Myanmar and Eastern part races like Palaung, Phao, Kachin, Wa and mixed Chinese. In Shan State the main and famous river is Shweleen (Thanlwin) River. It starts flows from China passing Shan State from North to South.

How to go there
The most convenient way is to fly from Yangon to Heho, which is the nearest airport to the Inle Lake. There are daily flights to Heho which take about one hour. The light from Mandalay to Heho takes only 20 minutes. Traveling by car along uphill and winding road over the Shan Plateau, taking long hours, is interesting the well-worth taking. There is also a regular train service via Thazi Junction to Heho and Shwenyaung, the nearest station to the lake.
